Catherine Gunning went by the name of "Kathleen Davies Gunning"
until she applied for her Old Age Pention. It was then she discovered
that her name wasn't Kathleen Davies, but Catherine Gunning.
She also found out at the same time, that her birthdate wasn't Dec. 24, 1889,
but that it was Apr. 2, 1889. She had no explanation for the discrepencies,
and did not mention much about her family. We asume that this was done by her parents,
so they wouldn't have to give her preasants more than once a year.
She never said if she had any siblings. She was very bitter about her family.

Commemorative Information
Cemetery: RHEINBERG WAR CEMETERY, Germany
Grave Reference/ Panel Number: 2. A. 6.
Location: Rheinberg is 24 kilometres north of Krefeld and 13 kilometres south of Wesel.
The cemetery is 3 kilometres south of the centre of the town of Rheinberg on the road to Kamp Lintfort.
Historical Information: After the battle of the Rhineland, which closed the Rhine throughout its length,
came the Allied advance over the river into Germany. The initial crossing of the Rhine-the greatest water
obstacle in Western Europe-was effected between Rheinberg and Rees on the night of March 23rd-24th, 1945.
There was no fighting in Rheinberg itself but Wesel, the key to the crossing, after preliminary intense
bombing by Bomber Command was captured by the Commando Brigade, and was the scene of bitter fighting.
The site of the cemetery was chosen in April 1946 by the Army Graves Service for the assembly of
British and Commonwealth graves recovered from numerous German cemeteries in the area.
The majority were the graves of airmen, mainly from Dusseldorf, Krefeld, Munchen-Gladbach,
Essen, Cologne, Aachen and Dortmund. From one town alone-Cologne-over 450
Air Force casualties who had been buried by the Germans were re-buried in this war cemetery.
The men of the other fighting services buried here mostly lost their lives during the
battle of the Rhineland, or in the crossings over the Rhine.
There are over 3,300 1939-1945 burials in this site.
In addition, a special memorial commemorates two Australian
airmen buried together at the time in Erkelenz Town Cemetery,
whose joint grave is now lost. The memorial, inscribed to this effect,
bears the quotation "Their glory shall not be blotted out".
The 39 special memorials inscribed "Buried near this spot" have been erected
to the memory of men known to have been re-buried in the cemetery,
whose graves cannot now be precisely located.

Janine and Seán met over the internet. Janine had a web page which Seá visited.
They exchanged emails over the course of a year. Then in June of 1998,
Janine went to London to meet him. Janine was staying at a Youth Hostil in London.
After a week, she had to move out. Not having anywere else to go, Seán invited
her to come to Dublin with him. She did, and as they say..."the rest is history".
We met Seán at my Mother's funeral, Nov. 14, 1998. We were impressed at how he
took care of Janine, at this sad event. We are glad to have him as a family member!
